Luminescence by Dahtamnay Luminescence by Dahtamnay
Here's a spontaneous OC idea I drew. The ingredients were pretty much a black canvas to start with and the idea to create an unusual OC. From there I figured I'd make her black (screw the rules for OC design) and give her luminescent hair (what?), because it seemed like a nice challenge to paint. It definitely makes for an interesting scene, especially because the only significant light source is the hair.

Don't ask me what her special talent is (though glowing in the dark is an unusual quality to have), but the cutie mark is derived from the non-ionizing radiation hazard sign.

Created with Gimp and Wacom Bamboo tablet.

She certainly turned out as one of the most unusual OC's that I've seen so far, I'll give you that!
It also seems that she would be an interesting pony to meet, but that stare might put you out of your comfort zone. And I still would like to wear a lead-coated suit, just to be on the safe side. :P
And how did you do the reflection, did you just paint it or is it an effect in GIMP?
Sorry for bothering you with so many questions - and comments.

Haha, no problem with all the questions and comments—I love it (I hope I'll be able to reply to all of them). You are right about the protective clothing though. I have theorized she may indeed be radioactive...

About the reflections, they're all painted. There's a simple reason for that: it's pretty much impossible to simulate an accurate reflection with just a filter. Artists often tend to use a filtered mirror image as a shortcut, but the results are often technically incorrect. The problem is that if you look at a reflection of an object, you basically look at it from a different angle, not just a mirrored image.

By the way, the blurriness in the reflection was added manually while painting.

This has got to be one of the neatest looking OCs I've seen of any sort! I mean, she's just so cool to look at!
And it's made beautifully. As someone below said, I first thought that it was a 3D rendering. Fantastic job.
